Registered Counsellor Karin McGregor
I’m a psychotherapist and educator with a person-centred approach that assumes you are the expert in your own life. My process involves enhancing your existing skills-set so you can better handle the curveballs life throws at you while moving toward your own life goals. My focus is on enhancing your resilience and flexibility to help you prepare for the life you want for yourself. While many of my clients come to me for upskilling and resilience building, my background as a therapist has been largely at the coalface of mental health. The majority of my work has been for the NGO sector, first as a trauma therapist, working with individuals who have experienced recent trauma or are affected by past trauma, and later as a grief counsellor primarily for individuals bereaved through suicide. I have advanced training in skills for psychological recovery to assist with processing traumatic events and residual trauma, and have also completed intensive training in suicide prevention, intervention, and bereavement therapy work. I have also undertaken specialist training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and make use of ACT skills and concepts in much of my counselling work. It is important to me that your therapy goes at a pace you feel comfortable with, addressing goals you set for yourself. Sensitivity and discretion are paramount in providing a safe and reassuring space in which you can do the hard work of self-development and/or healing.
