You will receive:   A 300-page Manual featuring new relationship assessment questionnaires and clinical interventions that you can use immediately with your clients.

  • Understand the research behind the Gottman Method
  • Be introduced to the Sound Relationship House Model
  • Overview of the treatment process
  • The assessment process

Day 2

  • Managing Conflict including the 4 horsemen and emotional flooding, conflict conversations, repair and compromise
  • Deepening the friendship and intimacy system
  • Developing shared meaning and rituals of connection

Course / Workshop content:

This is the first step in learning Gottman Method Therapy! A truly inspiring workshop, Level 1 training will give you new insight into couples’ struggles using research-based assessments and effective interventions. The workshop will be facilitated by Trish Purnell-Webb and John Flanagan. Presented by Trish Purnell-Webb and John Flanagan, Trish is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years experience of working with couples in a range of clinical and non-clinical settings, Trish brings a wealth of experience working with complex couples struggling with trauma, mood disorders, personality vulnerabiities, anger management issues, affair recovery and alcohol use. Trish is the only Senior Certified Gottman Marital Therapist, Master Trainer and Consultant in Australia. She is also an experienced clinical supervisor and assessor for the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority. John is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. John was the first Social Worker in Australia to become a Certified Gottman Therapist, he is also certifed to present the Art and Science of Love Couples Workshop, the Level 1 professional training and co-present the Level 2 professional training. John is trained to provide therapy to individuals, couples and groups in a range of therapeutic approaches and has a Masters in Gestalt Therapy. John is highly experienced in working with couples and individuals in a range of therapeutic settings particularly in the areas of trauma, trauma, stress, depression, and anxiety.

Experience:

Trish is an experienced psychologist with 38 years of work experience and 15 years of running her own private practice as a registered psychologist in the Gold Coast community.  She has been located at Burleigh Heads for the past 13 years  Trish is very experienced in providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples and groups.  Trish is trained to provide a range of therapeutic approaches including:

  • Emotion Focussed Couples Therapy
  • Collaborative Couples Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy

Trish has a Master of Clinical Psychology degree through Charles Sturt University, is a certified Gottman Marital Therapist and is the only Master Trainer and Consultant for the Gottman Institute in Australia.Trish is a highly experienced and engaging presenter and international trainer.

John Flanagan, Mental Health Accredited Social Worker, Certified Gottman Therapist and Trainer

Since completing his Bachelor of Social Work in 1988 snd later a Masters in Gestalt Therapy, John has had an extensive history in direct service delivery with couples, families and young people, as well as in organisational development and training.  He has developed a practice that utilises a range of experiential therapies combining these approaches in his work style.  John has also completed his Certificat IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and has delivered a broad range of training both accredited and non-accredited.  John is trained to provide therapy to individuals, couples and group in a range of therapeutic approaches including:

  • Emotion focussed Therapy for Couples
  • Collaborative Couples therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Gestalt Therapy

Over the last ten years john has provided a range of psycho-education group programs to Australian Veterans and their families in areas such as trauma, depression, anxiety and reslience.  He has also provided training to many human service organisations in Australia and New Zealand on creating positive work cultures, managing challenging clients and resilience. Trish has extensive experience in working with people who have experienced trauma including adult survivors of childhood abuse, institutional trauma, military trauma, first responders and members of the general community.  For the past 10 years Trish has been providing group interventions to Veterans and their familes and professional development workhsop to other health professionals especially in the area of couples therapy and trauma.
