Objective of Course / Workshop:

Grief is our response to loss. It is the normal, natural and inevitable response to loss, and it can affect every part of our life, including our thoughts, behaviours, beliefs, feelings, physical health and our relationships with others.

This workshop is designed for anyone encountering bereaved people in their professional lives. It is helpful for anyone who wants to understand the issues surrounding bereavement and how to communicate with clients and customers after someone close to them has died.

Dr Helen Lord is a GP, Palliative Care Specialist and Medical Educator. She graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1982. She trained as a general practitioner in Tasmania and the United Kingdom and started work in palliative care in 1988 at Whittle Ward in Hobart. She has been involved in medical education with Telehealth to remote locations in Tasmania, University of Tasmania to medical students and General Practice Training Tasmania to GP registrars and GP supervisors. She is a marker for the RACP Fellowship for Palliative Medicine Specialists and an examiner for the Hobart Clinical School. She is a lecturer in palliative medicine at the Hobart Clinical School, works as a GP in Kingston and is a Visiting Medical Officer for Northern Palliative Care Services in Tasmania. She is a member of the Bereavement Care Network in Tasmania, the AMA (Australian Medical Society) , RACGP (Royal Australian College of GPs), ANZSPM (Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine), APS (Australian Pain Society) and Palliative Care Tasmania.
