Objective of Course / Workshop:

A one day practically-oriented workshop for counselling students completing their training and preparing to enter the workforce or to commence private practice, and for recent graduates wanting to review and refine their strategies for advancing their early counselling career. 

Course / Workshop Outline:

Finding employment or establishing your private practice are challenging as you near the end of your counselling academic degree. Similarly, recent graduates may be unsure how best to present and position themselves in a competitive employment space. Knowing how and where to start may be somewhat daunting.

Many questions arise as you embark upon your counselling career:

  • What is the best option for me, agency work or private practice?
  • What are the employment options?
  • How did I get clients for my private practice?
  • In what area should I specialise?
  • Do I need more education in my speciality?
  • How do I develop a business plan?
  • How do I get a web presence?
  • Why do I need to network?
  • What are the ethical considerations of private practice? 

This professional development day introduces counselling students and recent graduates to the complexities of the counselling profession. The day will cover a range of topics with practical exercises to assist you in starting to develop a plan for your future.

Experience:

Warren has a strong passion for assisting clients, supervision and training staff. He has worked in corporate roles, counselling agencies, for charities, churches and in private practice, across a variety of roles including counsellor, trainer, business development and management. His current position is as a Practioner Development Coordinator across Australia in mental health issues, dealing with difficult clients and Trauma Informed Care for The Salvation Army. He is also is the director of a professional counselling and supervision practice. His private practice focuses on matters of anxiety, stress and trauma related work, especially with males in areas of anger and impulse control.
