Course / Workshop Outline:

Day 1. Module 1 STA1 – Sandtray Therapy and Applications

9.00am - Ice breaker/WHS/Assessment and assignment break down and overview/questions/answers 

9.30am - Case study presentations looking at the various theories that underpinn Sandtray Therapy.

11.00am - Break

11.15am - Continue with case study presentations

12.30pm - Lunch

1.30pm - Exercise Personal Development - Enneagram/Family Tree. This is an idividual exercise using the workbook as a resource.

2.45pm - Break

3.00pm - Class discussion and questions. We take an example from the groups experience of their own sense of being and belonging and overlay this to the principles of Sandtray Therapy and how that relates to theories, application and the Sandtray principles.

4.45pm - Students will do a group Sandtray

5.15pm - Debrief

5.30pm - End Session 


Day 2. Module 1

STA1 – Sandtray Therapy and Applications

9.00am - Debrief/Questions & Answers

9.30am - Role plays - today students will break into pairs or triads and take turns in being; client, therapist, observer

11.15am - Break

11.30am - Continue with role plays

1.00pm - Lunch

2.00pm - Continue with role plays

3.15pm - Break

3.30pm - Group discussions, peer feedback. We take the time to listen to the experience of each student and acknowledge any issues, concerns or questions about their own experience of Sandtray Therapy.

5.00pm - Assignments what is expected of students, how to do their work and expectations 

5.30pm - End session and module 1

Students to understand the assessment processes and practitional tasks

  • Explanation of all facilities and resources required to do Sandtray with clients of all ages and diversities
  • Address theories to specific client issues using case study material
  • Analyse individual behaviour using theoretical concepts of lifespan development
  • Discuss the legal and ethical requirements of a Sandtray Therapist

Fiona has been presenting workshops on Sandtray for a number of years now and has written extensively on the subject. Her peer reviewed article has appreared in July addition ACA Journal - Sandtray Therapy as a Cross-theoretical Approach to Counselling & Psychotherapy – Following a Summary of the 21 ‘Blue Knot’ Foundation’s Practice Guidelines for Treatment of Complex Trauma and Trauma Informed Care and Service Deliver.

Fiona is the CEO of Opengate Institute a purpose designed facility for training in Sandtray Therapy. 

Fiona will be presenting a workshop on Sandtray at the upcoming International ACA conference in Brisbane. Opengate Institute works closely with the International Association of Sandtray in America.
