Title: Mediation Training Short Course

Objective of Course / Workshop:

This five-day course will give you the skills to facilitate a mediation process - from initial intake, right through to resolving a dispute and reaching an agreement.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Meet with individuals to assess a dispute and prepare them for mediation.
  • Understand conflict and what factors contribute to or help to resolve it.
  • Facilitate a mediation process, using an evidence-based, effective model.
  • Manage high levels of emotion.
  • Help people involved in conflict to reflect on their own experiences and actions.
  • Effectively document and record agreements reached in mediation.
Course / Workshop Outline:

This is a 5 day course, 9-5pm each day.

Day 1 - Introduction to mediation

Day 2 - Assessment for suitability for mediation

Day 3 - Dealing with conflict

Day 4 - Issues in mediation

Day 5 - Additional considerations

There is also an additional optional assessment day, 9.30-4.30pm.

Mediation is a highly effective way to resolve disputes that arise in many situations and contexts. Our Mediation Training Short Course, when combined with our optional assessment, enables you to develop a mediation skillset and become a Nationally-Accredited Mediator.

Participants of this course will be able to facilitate dispute resolution in a variety of situations, including workplaces, within the community and in formal dispute resolution settings. It is designed for workers in a range of social services roles  who wish to develop a specific set of skills to help people resolve conflict.

Lilia Szarski is an accredited mediator under the NMAS and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) and a Trainer in the RAV Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution (FDR). Lilia is also a clinical supervisor and an experienced psychologist. Lilia holds membership of the Australian Psychological Society, International Association of Family and Youth Courts, International Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and the International Association of Applied Psychologists.
