At some point, all health practitioners, and from time to time teaching staff, have to face a client who is suicidal. If you feel uncertain about what to do and how to intervene and help your client Choose Life, this training is for you.

This revolutionary one-day training program developed by Richard Hill, will equip you with the foundational knowledge and skills to work with clients at risk of suicide and serious self-harm. 

If you work with people who are struggling with issues and they can't see a way out then this program will equip you with foundational knowledge and skills like no other suicide intervention or prevention workshop.

Once you complete this one day intensive training, you will, Master how to…

  • Increase your awareness of suicide clues;
  • Find prevention opportunities clients may not see;
  • Open the discussion with clients about suicide;
  • Help clients move towards safety and facilitate links with further help from family, friends and professional helpers as needed.

9:15 What is suicide? - phenomenology, statistics, myths and mysteries - The Pathway of Harm and the Pathway of Care.

10:15  Risk factors - mental health factors, including depression, psychosis, bipolar, personality disorders - what medication says about a person's neurobiological state - role and impact of the media.

11:15 Morning Tea

11:30  Protective factors - understanding of risk factors and protective factors.

Practical activity - Building local resource.

12:15 Review of theoretical underpinnings - Psycho-neuro-biology of connectedness.

1:00 Lunch

1.30 For Life Program - client/practitioner relationship - effects of chronic stress - curiosity oriented approach - effects of lifestyle practices.

2.00 Practical exercises - responding to overt / covert / and implicit client behaviours - Explanation of Assessment Chart.

2:30 Dealing with affected family, friends and helping professionals - how to integrate this program with various therapeutic techniques.

Experience:

Sue Sandy is a Clinical Counsellor in private practice in Melbourne specialising in depression, grief and loss, and relationship matters.  She is full member of the Australian Counselling Association with many years experience in private practice and public work through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (Victoria, Australia).  Sue is the brainchild behind this technology, which has been developed by TatvaSoft a world leader in programming software, used in many health related industries.

Shane Warren is a Psychotherapist in private practice with rooms in Sydney and Hong Kong.  Shane has a diverse area of work utilising his training in counselling, hypnotherapy and coaching.  He is trained in a number of the assessment tools used in the software package.  Outside of his practice work Shane is an active board member of a number of private companies across the Asia Pacific region; as well as a leader in the international coaching community holding such positions as Executive Committee Member (and Chair of the Ethics Committee) for the Asia Pacific Alliance of Coaches, Singapore based; Convenor of AsiaPac for the Association of Coaches, London based; and Licensing Committee Member for the International Association of Coaching, USA based.
