Registered Counsellor Philip Armstrong
I am the CEO of ACA and also hold the position of Adjunct Senior Industry Fellow at the University of South Australia.
I run my own training company Optimise Potential (OP). OP: Delivers professional development workshops and the RISE UP program, Certificate of Attainment in Professional Supervision (COA in Supervision). The RISE UP program is run throughout Australia and Asia. Further information on the RISE UP program can be found on www.optimisepotential.com.au The RISE UP COA in Supervision has been approved by: Australian Counselling Association, Australian Hypnotherapy Association, Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists, Association of Psychotherapists & Counsellors (Singapore), Philippines Association of Guidance Counsellors, Counsellors Victoria, Professional Counselling Association NSW/ACT, South Australian Psychotherapy & Counselling Association. OP is currently developing further training in weight management subjects. ACA: I hold several positions on various curriculum development boards in the vocational and higher education sectors. I work with providers within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) to develop curriculums for Diploma's (AQF level 5) through to Masters degrees (AQF level 8). I also advise government and other stakeholders within the counselling industry. I advocate counselling as a stand-alone discipline and registered counsellors to employer groups and government. Declaration in relation to the potential of Conflict of Interest as the CEO of ACA.: I am not employed or contracted and nor do I hold a Directorship or receive any financial or any other type of remunerations from any registered training organisation that delivers an ACA accredited course or non-ACA accredited course. Nor do I or Optimise Potential have any financial holdings or directorships in any registered training providers. I have no influence nor am I directly involved in the accreditation process of vocational courses within ACA. OP does license individuals and companies to deliver the RISE UP program in Supervision. I am not involved in hearing complaints nor in the complaints procedures process within ACA. Complaints are heard by an independent Complaints Board. Fund Raising: I have been actively involved in fundraising for charities from the age of 12 years old. The first charity I actively raised funds for was the Spastic Society of Victoria (now known as Skope Vic) in 1970. Post-1994 I regularly raised money and was involved in fundraisers for Veterans organisations. More recently, post-2005, I have been involved in raising over $78k for Kids Helpline through a virtual conference and also helped to raise over $46k for the Cancer Foundation by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. I have also been involved in raising money for Act for kids over the last few years. Short History: Armstrong Counselling and Consultancy Services was established in the mid-1990’s and expanded into training in the early 2000’s. The expansion saw a name change to Clinical Counselling Centre CCC) and a change in location of its head office from Forrest Lake to Grange in Northern suburbs of Brisbane in Queensland. In 2015 CCC underwent another transition to become Optimise Potential (OP) Since that time OP has been involved in the delivery of mental health services and training. The Executive Director and owner of OP is Philip Armstrong who has over 20 years of experience working in the Mental Health industry from developing non-government organisations (NGO) to working with curriculum development and external review boards in both the vocational and higher education sectors.
