Dr Melati Sumari
Bio and Qualifications:
Dr Melati Sumari is a senior lecturer at the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. She received her undergraduate and Masters Degree in Education (Guidance and Counseling) from the same university. She obtained her doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Western Michigan University, United States of America.
Dr Sumari has been in counseling field since 1997. She started her career as a junior lecturer at the University of Malaya upon completion of her masters degree. She was promoted to a senior lecturer position in 2007. Dr Sumari’s specialization is Marriage and Family therapy and Counseling in Higher Education, which are her concentration while doing a doctoral degree. At the University of Malaya, she teaches family counseling, counseling theory, and supervise counseling trainees at the undergraduate and masters degree levels. She also actively involved in research related to family and has published several articles on the topic. Dr Sumari is a main author of Counseling Theory and Career Counseling Theory books, which are written in her native Malay language, published by the University of Malaya Press.
