Bio and Qualifications:
Heather Trepal, Ph.D., LPC-S (TX) is a Professor and Coordinator of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in the Department of Counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Trepal has served as President of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and the Association for Creativity in Counseling (ACC), both divisions of the American Counseling Association (ACA). She has received numerous awards within the counseling profession. She has previously worked as a counsellor in a rape crisis centre, a college counseling centre, and in private practice. Her research and publications focus on self-injurious behaviour, gender based sexual violence, bilingual counsellor supervision and training, integrated behavioural healthcare, and professional advocacy. She is slated to be the 2019-2020 President of the American Counseling Association, the world's largest association for professional counselors. Dr. Trepal has experience providing sexual assault intervention and response training to a wide-range of first responders and helping professionals including law enforcement officers, legal professionals, health professionals, and mental health professionals.
