Bio and Qualifications:

Dr. Asabi Afi Dean is currently an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education in the School of Education at Quincy University. She is also coordinator of the College Student Personnel track in the Masters of Education in Counseling program. Dr. Dean earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Iowa and her M.A. in Community Mental Health Counseling & B.A. in Psychology from Chicago State University. Dr. Dean has authored & co-authored a published article, a book chapter & many conference presentation focusing heavily in the area of PTSD and mental & emotional trauma. Dr. Dean also created and teaches a Trauma Across the Lifepan Class and completed her dissertation study on the teaching and training of trauma to Masters-level counseling students. Dr. Dean’s research interests include mental and emotional trauma, college student development, multicultural counseling and national and state public policy. Memberships include American Counseling Association (ACA), Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors (ACES), Chi Sigma Iota, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS)
