DAY ONE:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a focused, time limited and well-supported psychological treatment particularly for mood and anxiety disorders. Recent advances in Applied Psychology research have resulted in the incorporation of Mindfulness and Positive Psychology (PP) principles in counselling and therapy settings (Cayoun, 2011, Fredrickson, 2009, Germer, Siegel and Fulton 2005, Linley and Joseph 2004).
This workshop-style training program presents a sophisticated integration of mindfulness skills, positive psychology knowledge and techniques and essential principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
The program emphasis is on the teaching of current knowledge and skills. Participants will be provided with practical and effective CBT, Mindfulness and PP techniques within a coherent, integrated framework. Client handouts will be provided to participants for the unrestricted use with their clients.
DAY TWO:
While the field of positive psychology is young, many studies are beginning to confirm that Positive Psychology Interventions (PPIs) can significantly improve the well-being of many as well as decrease depressive symptoms.
Over the last few years PPIs have been implemented in treatment of a variety of mental disorders. PPIs have been found to be particularly useful for addressing a paucity of positive affect, engagement and life meaning that characterise depression. For example, depressed individuals are likely to benefit from increases in positive emotions. Positive emotions have been shown to speed recovery from the physiological effects of negative emotions, to improve broad-minded coping skills and to prevent relapses.
These advances in the literature confirm that much has already been accomplished in the field and that practitioners can now confidently and effectively integrate positive psychology interventions into their daily practices. |
